Author: Shersta Chabot, Illustrated by Markie Riley
Product Description: Jesus wants me for a sunbeam—and a moonbeam, clear stream, and calm sea! Like the classic children’s song, this charming picture book draws on imagery from nature to teach children how to follow the Savior. Just as a star in the night sky can guide wanderers home, we can live in a way that guides others to Jesus Christ.
About the Author: Shersta Chabot grew up in Utah, the oldest in a family of eleven children. She started writing at an early age, winning awards for her poetry and stories. After moving to Phoenix, Arizona, with her three children and a bachelor’s degree, she earned advanced degrees in writing and literacies. Currently, she teaches academic and creative writing classes to college students from around the globe. Shersta is the author of The Symbols of Christmas and Angels of Christmas. Nellie Talbot is virtually unknown, other than as the lyricist who wrote I’ll Be a Sunbeam (also known as Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam) sometime before 1900, when her verses were set to music and published in a collection of hymns by Edwin O. Excell. That her lyrics have endured for over a century is a testament to their beautiful simplicity and sweet message.
