Break (Paperback) *
Author - Jolyn Brown
With his father gone and a younger brother with down syndrome, Preston has made it his job to hold together what remains of his family. This growing responsibility has been the best counter to a life-long struggle with social anxiety; a relief, considering his dad's extreme social phobias tore apart the family.
Only weeks after an ATV accident takes the life of a family friend, Preston's mother announces her intention to marry. The timing couldn't be worse. How will Preston deal with losing his friend and helping his brother move on while also trying to merge his family with three emotional stepsisters and a prying stepdad?
Juggling the marriage, a rebellious friend, questions about his own faith, and the flare-up of his social anxiety, Preston reaches his breaking point. Is he really capable of keeping a family together, or is he going to end up like his father after all? Exploring themes of grief, family love, and trust int he Savior, Break will appeal to LDS teenagers.
